How to : Upgrade Fedora 20 from Fedora 19 with FedUp

Hi buddies,

Fedora 20 Heisenbug is released just yesterday (17th Dec, 2013). I am a fan of Fedora. Though I am in the middle of some project with huge pressure and planned not to upgrade my system till the pressure is down, but I can’t help 😛

Here is how I upgrade my system with FedUp from Fedora 19 to Fedora 20 step by step.

Step 1.

Make your current system update with yum with

sudo yum update

Step 2.

Clean your yum repo with

sudo yum clean all

Step 3.

Reboot your system to make sure everything is up-to-date (if your kernel is updated)

Step 4.

Install FedUp with (if not already installed)

sudo yum install fedup

Step 5.

be the root user with

sudo su

Step 6.

Start your FedUp with

fedup --network 20 --instrepo http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/releases/20/Fedora/x86_64/os/

It will download the rpm files for update your system which will take some quite long time.

Step 7.

Reboot your system and from the boot menu, select System Upgrade (fedup)

It will update your total system to Fedora 20 from your current Fedora 19.

One more thing, dont forget to take backup of your important data before upgrade (Though I didn’t do that 😛 )

Bingo!!! You will boot with Fedora 20 Now 🙂

Be happy with your fresh Fedora 20 “Heisenbug”
